A stair can be more than circulation. In this private residence, bronze becomes a quiet structural note, carrying warmth and depth through the center of the space, balanced by glass and fine stainless cable lines.

The surface is developed as a brushed bronze with a measured, cloud like darkening, so the finish reads calm across every tread and riser. The result is tactile and consistent, with a controlled reflection that changes gently as you move through the volume.
This project features a double stair flight in a private residence in Rishon Letzion, Israel, finished in bronze with a controlled darkened, cloud like tonality. The coated scope includes both risers and tread surfaces, developed to keep the finish continuous across the geometry and readable under natural daylight. Guarding elements set a deliberate contrast: stainless steel cable lines on one side, and clear glass on the other, allowing the bronze to remain the visual anchor without adding visual noise. Technologies used: MetaliQ liquid metal.
The finish direction is a deep bronze tuned toward restraint, combining a brushed behavior with a softened, clouded darkening so reflections stay calm rather than mirror sharp. Control is carried through edges and step breaks so the surface reads continuous across planes, not as a collection of parts. Alignment is managed through reference sampling and lighting checks, keeping tone and sheen coherent from tread to riser. Protection and maintenance are treated as part of the finish logic, with a clear sealing layer intended to reduce scratch and wear sensitivity in daily use, and with cleaning guidance defined to preserve the intended patina and sheen over time.
Work begins with substrate preparation and edge detailing so corners and transitions remain crisp after finishing. The metal layer is then applied through a controlled build suited to stair geometry, followed by finishing calibration that sets brush direction, tonal depth, and reflectivity under controlled light. A transparent protective layer is applied to stabilize the surface for daily contact and long term serviceability, then quality control checks confirm continuity across every step, including how the finish reads along edges, in grazing light, and across the full run of the stair.
Bronze behaves differently on stairs than on vertical cladding. It is read at close range, under changing angles, and through repeated contact. Here, the finish is tuned to stay quiet across broad treads, while still holding detail at the step breaks, so the staircase reads as one composed object rather than a sequence of parts.
The surrounding materials keep the bronze honest. Glass preserves the line of the stair, stainless cables add a fine graphic rhythm, and the bronze carries the weight of tone. Under daylight, the surface moves between warmth and shadow, with a disciplined sheen that remains stable from the first step to the landing.
